Significance of Haldi Ceremony

This ceremony is performed on the morning of the wedding day. One of the main reasons for applying Haldi paste to the bride and groom is to nourish their skin and get rid of dead skin and infections, which gives them a natural glow for the wedding. A paste of Haldi (turmeric), water, curd, oil and sandalwood is put on the bride and groom by their respective families. Haldi ceremony is the most fun-filled ritual of the Indian wedding. Close family members and friends apply the Haldi paste on the arms, neck, legs and face of the bride and groom. This is followed by a ceremonial bath with a mix of milk, rose water and sandalwood paste. Performing this pious act protects the bride and groom from any evil eye and blesses them for a long and happy marriage.
